Waves roll in for a great season starter

THE Surfside Waves women’s Division 1 team had a great start to the season at the weekend, beating its competition Kardinia International College by two goals.
The women started a little nervously on Saturday, but soon settled into their game with players taking a touch and getting the passing game going.
New player Faye Kendall came on after 10 The women then went to sleep for a little while and Kardinia equalised from a corner – but Surfside didn’t drop their heads and continued to play the ball around. The new back four started to settle into their roles with Maddie Hill controlling the play supported by Jas Pickett, Emma Riley and Kate Elstone, Maddie Wilding in goal making great use of her area and several important saves, plus great distribution.
A second goal from Faye settled the side. each other, but with the tireless work from Jordan Tabakovic, Allana Gilbee who dropped back to cover, Gina Murphy and Neisha Pearson, they controlled the game well in the second half. Surfside wingers Steffi Wallace, Alexis Pearson gave Kardinia no end of problem, especially when Cath Sattler sealed the game in the 50th minute Surfside Waves scored three goals, to Kardinia’s one.
