Get your entry in for Surf Coast Century

March 10, 2016 BY

Get your entry ENTRIES are now open for this year’s Surf Coast Century ultramarathon.
The Anglesea-based event will be held on September 3, and is expected to draw about 1,000 runners across the 100-kilometre solo, 50-kilometre solo and the 100-kilometre relay team events.
About 200 runners will come from interstate or overseas, and organisers have encouraged locals to take part in the trailrunning event.
The 100-kilometre course can be completed by individual runners or relay teams (of up to four competitors).
There’s also a 50-kilometre solo option that makes the step into ultra-distance races a bit easier for those not quite ready to tackle the full 100 kilometres.
Event organiser Rapid Ascent says the Surf Coast Century is considered an ideal event for those tackling their first ultra-marathon. The course design is a figure 8, with anglesea being the start, half-way point, finish and the event hub. This enables great spectator access the whole way around, which lends itself to a really supportive and fun event atmosphere.
The course is challenging yet achievable, event logistics are easy and the event vibe is very supportive. There’s also an extensive range of resources for less-experienced runners on the event website.
“Local runners are lucky to have such an incredible event in their backyard; hopefully it will provide them with extra motivation to get out and enjoy the local trails,” Rapid Ascent event manager Sam Maffett said.
Winners of the 100-kilometre solo event will automatically be titled the Australian 100-kilometre Trail Running Champion, under the auspices of the Australian Ultra Running Association.
This year, there’s added incentive for local businesses to join the event with the new Corporate Cup categories:  100-kilometre Relay Team of Four – with all team members being from the one organisation, and  Kilometre Kings – being the combined total kilometres run by employees from the one organisation (including 100-kilometre solo, 50-kilometre solo and Relay Teams of four).
There’s no extra cost to enter into the Corporate Cup and all runners will still be eligible for all other categories they qualify for, i.e. age group placings for individuals.
