Local family’s marathon effort

April 14, 2016 BY

THIS year’s GMHBA Great Ocean Road Marathon will be a bonding exercise for the Williams family from Torquay.
Geoff and Eileen Williams and their daughters Madi, Jade and Brooke are all taking part in the race, set for May 14 and 15, with Geoff and Brooke in the six-kilometre event, Eileen and Jade in the 14-kilometre event and Madi taking on the half marathon. Geoff said they were inspired to enter together after Brooke won the women’s 14-kilometre event in 2014.
“It’s a nice thing to do together, Eileen and I are involved in Step Into Life in Torquay and the girls train frequently so they’re pretty prepared – I’m not quite as prepared but getting there. “It’s something that we’ve wanted to do for a while so the fact that we’re all competing together makes it that little bit more exciting.”
The GMHBA Great Ocean Road Marathon will see thousands of runners taking on the stunning course in various locations from Lorne to Apollo Bay. effort Events include the 60-kilometre ultra marathon, 44-kilometre marathon, 23-kilometre half marathon, 14- and six-kilometre runs and a 1.5-kilometre children’s event.
